Concept & Development
The idea for a Book Rental Manager Application emerged from the developer, Bertina Macaulay’s personal experience as a Campion College parent and volunteer in the Book Room. Struggling with a manual paper-based book rental system, she proposed an automated solution to the Book Room Co-ordinator. Developing the application in her spare time between 2016-2017, it was fully implemented in the summer of 2018 with the support of the school’s administration.
With the help of student and parent volunteers, over 12,000 books were barcoded and entered into the database, streamlining the process of book distribution and collection. The application provides instant reports for tasks such as tracking outstanding books, managing book titles by forms, and identifying shortfalls by class.
Expansion
In 2021, Meadowbrook High School adopted the Book Rental Manager solution after hearing about its success at Campion College. After a demonstration to their school admin, the application was licensed to them and their books were also barcoded and organized for distribution. With the application now operational in two high schools, Ms Macaulay looks forward to expanding its reach and inviting more schools to join the Book Rental Manager family.
Bertina Macaulay is also the founder of Accessible-Data, an IT company providing custom and web solutions for corporate clients for almost 20 years.
